When special becomes mundane

I remember when over seven years ago I joined my current company. There was many exciting perks we had. Things that I hadn't even dreamt of having as a work benefits. They felt great and special. It was easy to appreciate such things.

Today, after all these years enjoying such benefits they don't feel that special anymore. I take them as granted. Back in the days I wouldn't have missed any chances for those. But today I find myself pondering whether it's even worth it going.

I have heard of you

We had a new guy starting at work on Wednesday. I only met him today due to not being at the office for the past few days. After introducing myself he replied: "oh, you are THAT guy, I have heard of you".

I don't know what he had heard, and from where. But I immediately replied "not everything they tell about me is true". Half joking. I'm sure whatever it has been was positive. But me being a modest Finn I always assume not all of that positivity is necessarily earned.
