Hold or sell

Collectibles are always a tricky things. Should I hold onto them, or sell when the right offer comes? As an investment they can be a really good investment, or really bad. Anything can happen to their value just overnight.

In the past I have sold some collectibles that would today be around ten times more expensive. On the other hand I have also sold things for a good price that have no value anymore. Sometimes you win, sometimes lose.

But that's not the real value of collecting, sometimes it can just a nice bonus. The real thrill is tracking down those rare items and finally completing your collection. Even if you can get your money back later it's still worth it. And with a little bit of care it's quite easy to make sure you'll get at least that.

So why am I writing about this now? Well, I just sold one of my collections with a hundred percent profit. I know it could have gone up from there quite a bit, but nothing guaranteed if they could have kept their value. It could very well be, that one day they hold zero value. I have seen that (and lost some money) on similar things before. So it's better to play it safe. I got my enjoyment putting that collection together and satisfaction once I finally got the last piece. Now I can happily pass it on and at the same time enjoy a little bit of profit.
