Taste of disappointment

While I was planning the slowly cooked pork belly there was another recipe I also wanted to try out while I was on it. So yesterday I saved part of the meat before taking the rest into the last roast for that other dish: smoked pork mac & cheese. Tender pork and cheese with pasta, what could be better than that?

After another long wait and a lot of steps I finally had the much anticipated dish in front of me today at dinner time. With high hopes I barely managed to cool it down enough to not burn my mouth. The first bite... nothing. It wasn't a culinary explosion in my mouth. It wasn't bad. I'd say it was still above average or even good. It was just not I was expecting from it. With all the waiting and a lot of effort I was looking for something exceptional.

Sometimes you just can't meet the expectations. If those explanations are too high you might miss a perfectly good experience when you didn't get quite what you wanted.

Having lower explanations sure have it's merits. But really looking forward to something and having that excitement while waiting for it has it's own thrill as well. What would be the point of spending extra effort preparing a dinner if you already expect it to taste bland. You could've just habe microwaved something.
