Different kind of commute

Heading to the office again. I usually go by train if wife needs the car, or by car if she doesn't. Today the car was at my disposal, but I couldn't take the car anyway. At least not all the way to the office.

The downsides of having the office in downtown is the lack of parking space. Well, reasonably priced anyway. We used to have four parking spots in our office buildings garage, but during the pandemic and so few people visiting the office we downscaled our slots to 2. Now that things are getting back towards normal they are quite often already booked unless you act way ahead of time.

While I still had the car I thought I could utilize the connection parking closer to the city center and taking the local train from there for the rest of the way. This way I wouldn't need to drive through the busiest part of the route, but still wouldn't need to sit that long on the train.

In the end the trip time comes down to pretty much the same as taking the train, or driving during non-busy hours of traffic. The cost savings isn't that remarkable either. While the local train ticket is only one quarter of the full train ticket the parking lot has also started to charge for parking there. In the end it's still about half of the cost of taking the train, and four times the cost of just driving there.
