Things worth writing down

When you have a notebook for your todos, ideas and reminders what should you write down there? Which things are worth writing?

If you just keep writing every small thing you'll end up filling your notebook really fast. It's also hard to go through all that on a daily basis to see what you should do today.

On the other hand if you just write your big ideas and high level goals there isn't much to do every day.

I have already moved all my remainders to calendar. Only when I don't have that available I write a todo to myself to put that thing there.

For small tasks you can cut the amount by simply doing them right away. No need to write it down if you can just get it done Sure for those who track their days retrospectively this is one less task done. But for that it might be better to just keep a simple daily counter of minor tasks done.

For ideas it's a bit more complex. I try to keep them somewhat categorized, so in a way instead of adding a new idea I'm just extending some existing one. I also move the ideas forward to another place so I can usually cross them over from my list.

So all that is left are the todos. Everything else still gets captured, but won't require so much attention while going through the list.

In general: just get it out of your head. Keep writing, but keep prosessing the list too. Move things forward to keep it tidy. You can always get a new one.
