Listening and "listening" music

I have a few different modes of listening to music. Sometimes I listen it more purposefully, some other times it's just something in the background.

When doing things that don't require that much thinking it's nice to have some suitable music playing in the background. It can give some rhythm to the doing or just make it a bit less boring. Good examples are things like exercising or doing chores. Picking some high energy tunes can make those tasks more enjoyable.

Sometimes I just want to hear some good old songs. Taking a moment sitting back and just enjoying my favourites. The problem is, I want to hear so many of them i don't take the time to listen the whole song but instead skip to the next one after just a moment.

Discovering new music is also one way. Browsing through suggested songs, discovery list, related artists and so on can take me quite far and unexpected places. This too involves quickly listening to short pieces of the songs and just skipping forward, sometimes adding those rare finds to a playlist.

On rare occasions I actually stop and listen a song fully and on purpose. Even then I might get carried away just half way through needing to requeue all those songs I wanted to hear.
