Brave new adaptation

Aldous Huxley's iconic work has gotten a new live adaptation in HBO's series bearing the same name. While the series carries the same premise and some plot elements it's not the same thing.

While the book might have been a presentation of it's time and the fears of the future back almost a hundred years ago those same threating pictures are more relevant than ever today. We are living in a world where algorithms are feeding us with the next thing to watch, overwhelming us with the pleasures of neverending stream of entertainment.

And that's what this show is about. Not in a way that it makes you think about such things, but just another easy to watch, good looking series. It doesn't really make you think. The biggest irony is the ending of the series: while the book had the tragic and quite conclusive ending the series instead just leaves us wanting more with abundance of hints about what's going to happen next.

I would really like to believe that the makers of the series have done this on purpose. That would be a real next level move. Unfortunately I don't really have much fate in it. All they care about are the ratings and views.
