Free willusion

If you believe in God or any other supernatural force they pretty much dictate our choices. "It's all part of God's plan". Those omnipotent, omniscient beings know it all and control everything.

If you prefer more rational proof physics got you covered. Despite the chaotic nature of quantum mechanism if you know the speed, direction and position of an elementary particle you can predict it's future. Knowing enough of those would give you an ability to predict events in macroscopic scale. Of course you can't know this for even a single particle. But it doesn't mean those qualities don't exist. They are already in motion and behave accordingly. Nothing can change their predestination.

Our minds work on a biochemical platform. The current balance of the chemistry affect our behaviour. We can control it with certain chemicals, for example alcohol or drugs. So if we can alter that chemistry to act differently the normal state is also making the decisions for us.

Maybe our minds are separate from our physical body? Not held back with physics or chemistry, nor by any deity. Our psyche is result from all our past experience and knowledge. We act based on that knowledge, according our personality. It's all pre-programmed into our mind.

The world around us dictates our actions. Our wealth or social status affects our possibilities. We need to act according to agreed rules and laws, or social contracts.

The free will is an illusion. There is proof against it in so many level it's hard to deny. Yet we have no other choice than disregard the evidence. Believing there is no free will would destroy us, drive us insane. Even if the free will would be true we couldn't choose not to believe in it.
