Municipal elections

Today we had the municipal elections here in Finland. As a responsible citizen I did my duty and cast my vote. But it wasn't easy to find the right candidate.

Even though I'm not that much into politics I do have "my" party. Unfortunately they didn't have any candidates at our city this time either. So I had to resort to a voting aid application.

After picking up one of the applications. I went through the quiz and was presented with a list of people with similar answers. After a quick look through the list I wasn't convinced any of them would be worth my vote. It seemed there were always one or two questions we ended up disagreeing. The ones that were important to me.

Knowing a bit about this kind of applications I then decided to game the system and abuse the algorithms to find a more suitable candidate for me. This new pass did indeed produce better looking candidates, but it was still hard to pick the one. They were all actually too similar now to make the choice!

There wasn't really much time (and I have to admit interest either) to do any more thorough investigation on the candidates. Maybe I shouldn't have left this to the last day. In the end it all was down to the free answers the candidates could have left to the questions. Only one of my selected ones had taken the time to write their thoughts about most of the questions.
