Miniled vs. OLED

My first impression was that the thing is BIG, really big. My original plan was to get a 65" one, but somehow the size just jumped up to 75". I did plan to get OLED at that time too, so the price range was still the same. In the end it was wither 65" OLED or 75" Miniled. The 65" miniled option wouldn't have been noticeably cheaper. And bigger is always better?

I had read good reviews about the new miniled technology. Some reviewers claimed the black levels being almost as good as with OLED and the screens were brighter too. That's an important detail as in our case the brightness is quite important due to how the afternoon sun shines directly to the screen. Even with blinds closed it's still noticeable. I'm also not that sensitive to some not so perfect black levels so the miniled seemed like a perfect option for us.

And it really seems to deliver to those promises. The picture is good even during the poor lighting and reflections from the windows. The black levels are really good. I couldn't tell a difference from OLED (maybe only if there was an OLED screen next to it) and the contrast is also good between the dark and light areas of the picture.

I'm sure even the cheapest regular led models would have delivered better picture quality than our old one, but I'm really satisfied with the picture quality of this one overall. Perhaps the OLED screen could have delivered a slightly better quality. But I doubt I would have noticed any difference. This one is more than good enough. And hopefully a bit more long lived as well as the OLEDs still might have issues with picture burn-in.
