There is no shortage on new technologies in the IT industry. The current boom with the chatgpts is just the latest graze. In my position I need to keep up with everything that is happening in the world regarding software related development, evaluating possible technologies and deciding whether they are something we should invest in to be able to keep up with the competition and answer to the customer demand.
Adapting new technologies however doesn't happen overnight. There is a lot of background work to be done before something cutting edge ends up in production. It doesn't help that many of our customers prefer stable technologies.
Luckily we also have customers who are keen on new technologies and willing to experiment. Such customers are one of the most valuable. At least from my point of view. They allow us to expand our technological horizon and enable us to experiment with new technologies.
Even then it takes quite a while before we are able to add such technologies to our portfolio and call ourselves as experts in those areas.
