Honour among roleplayers

We went to see the new Dungeons & Dragons movie today with the whole family. As avid roleplayers we were looking forward seeing our favourite game inspired story on the big screen. I had my own doubts, still remembering the previous attempt from over two decades ago that went horribly wrong.

The old movie didn't habe much in common with the game or any worlds associated with it. At best it was a generic fantasy without any real connection to the D&D. I actually didn't know until now that there were two more made, the second went straight to TV and the third one skipped even that and was only released on video.

The new movie however was a positive surprise. As a movie it wasn't bad at all and as a movie based on something personally important to many fans it also managed to capture a lot of familiar things.

I think it was a smart choice not to base the movie in any existing stories. There would have been too much "that's not how it was in books" going on you would have missed all the other references. It still included a lot of lore from the world and the game itself.

Definitely a must see for any D&D players and fans and probably an ok movie even for those not that into the genre as just a fantasy flavoured heist movie.
