Catching up

First days at work after vacation are always special. There is a lot of catching up to do to get up to speed on what has happened while you were away. You also need to orient yourself back to the working mode. It doesn't help if tour days are filled with meetings so only time you can do that catching up are the small breaks in between them.

I was only away for a week. Even less as I did do some work on last Monday and the Friday was a national holiday. So effectively I was away only three days! Yet I was only able to completely catch up with all the mails and messages halfway today, my second day at work.

Considering the amount of messages, and the short list of actual actions and replies I had to do based on those it seems I'm still following way too many channels. Most of those I could have just ignored. Many things were already resolved without needing my attention.

It's a good sign that things are running smoothly even without me. It's just up to me now to accept it. I think this "practice" vacation was a good thing at this point in a sense that when I'm returning my longer vacation I could just skip most of the catching up and start from the fresh state instead.
