We were supposed to end our current Dungeons and Dragons campaign before summer. The game has been running over four years at this point and our characters are starting to reach the maximum levels. After so long it's on the other hand hard to let go of the familiar characters, but at the same time it would be nice to try something else for a change.
Well, the campaign didn't end before summer. It's still going strong and we have several loose ends to complete before we can properly conclude all the stories. On top of that there always seems to be additional story hooks that could take us on another sidequest. Even without any new sidetracks it might still take us several months to complete just the main story.
We might need to rush a bit at some point, or we just need to make the decision at some point to retire our current characters. Nothing prevents us putting those characters aside for a while and perhaps returning to them again sometime later.
