Tracking habits

In forming and retaining habit tracking the progress is quite vital element for success. Tracking leads to streaks and streaks are hard to break so by the time you might break them the new habit has most likely already formed and you don't need such helpers to keep it up.

Some years ago I went a bit overboard with tracking such habits. I don't remember the details, but I had quite many streaks hoing on, many of them for over a year. At that point it wasn't about forming new habits anymore - I had formed an additional habit of tracking habits.

It took a while to get rid of that. The only habit that I'm still tracking is my writing streak. And even that I only occasionally open my tracking app and fill in the missing days. I don't use it to remember to complete the task, I only use it to occasionally check what's my current streak.

Maybe an easier option would be to implement some simple calculator that just displays the count of days since the day I started writing.
