Story thrice retold

We went to see the second part of the Dune today. Not the opening night but our schedule just didn't work out to go see it any earlier as I would have hoped.

For such an iconic piece of literature it's a challenge to adapt such a story on the screen. That hasn't stopped people from trying. There is the original 1984 Lynch version that draws a lot of controversy. It isn't as bad as many say, but it did have it's own issues. The second adaptation wasn't made for the big screen, but was a TV miniseries by the sci-fi channel. Overall I still think it's the best one even though the new Villeneuve version is in it's own class for different reasons.

The problem I have with all these adaptations (in addition to the original written version) is that I have seen (and read) them all more than once (except the latest part 2). They are all mixing up in my head. It's hard to tell from which version some details are anymore. Watching the latest I had multiple occasions when I thought that's not how it's supposed to go, but I'm not sure whether I was comparing it to either of the previous adaptations or the original books.
