Today I received one of the final missing sets in my LEGO castle collection. Of course the castle theme is quite wast spanning multiple decades and subthemes and I have no intention (at least for now) to collect them all.
When I started to collect those sets I narrowed my target to only include certain subthemes from the era I was originally collecting them - from the eighties. Specially the Black Falcons and Lion Knights sets. The former are easy. There are only one ambiguous set which is a reissue of one of the most iconic sets from that era. It's practically the same as the original so I decided to omit it from my list. There is also two new sets made for that theme that I strictly wouldn't need to complete my collection from that part. But I also own those two so it doesn't really matter.
With the Lion Knights it's not that simple. Back in the 80's LEGO didn't really give names for those themes. Later, there has been attempts to classify those early sets which do have some small differences over the years they were released. Some classify them all (from -84 until the early 90's) as belonging to the same faction. Others separate those into two or even three different variations. Especially that last few sets from the 90's aren't that interesting to me so I could omit those from my "complete" collection. On the other hand they are close enough that they could be classified as one set so I could still aim for the more complete goal for them.
Luckily there is only 4 additional sets if I decide to include those as well. It would however be more than double the sets I'm currently missing before I could say I have completed my goal.
