Mind outside the box

We humans are highly self-conscious individuals. Despite the need to work as a hive mind to accomplish greater things we like to keep ourself closed and intact. At it's core we thing we reside completely inside out heads, in our brains. Even in the broadest sense we keep ourself limited to our physical body.

Lets start there, using our body to help us think. Counting by our fingers is probably the simplest example of this. Helping us to keep track the tally outside our head, but still within our physical presence. How about if we use our own hand to use pen to draw lines onto paper? We are still using part of ourself to alter the state of external object to help us think. It doesn't differ that much from relying purely on our fingers. Moving further, using abacus, calculator, computer... still the same, the complexity of the appliance just grows.

It's our mind using our body to interact with those devices in order to help us thing increasingly complex thoughts. Something not possible with the capability of our own internal processing unit.

We do a lot of this external thinking. We extend our minds not only to other people, but to all the things around us.
