Coincidence?

Isn't it amazing that sun is almost exactly 400 times further from earth than moon and the moon is also 400 times smaller? What are the odds of that happening.

Over the billions of years of these objects existence, it's actually 100. Billions years ago when the moon formed it started to orbit our planet at much closer distance. Over the years it has slowly been distancing from us so that currently it just happens to be at around that 1/400 times the distance of sun away from us.

So there is no coincidence, just inevitable point in time. But sure there must be significance in the fact that it happens to be that way exactly at the time there is intelligent life on earth that can notice and appreciate that fact. Well, the time window for this "unique" event is about a billion years. So it still doesn't make make us any way special.

We just happen to be here during the time when the stars align right so that we can enjoy spectacular solar eclipses that wouldn't be possible if the moon would had to drift any further. If it had, we wouldn't even have paid attention to such detail and instead would have found some other as intriguing but meaningless correlation with some other measures.
