Worth the time?

Committing myself to a series, especially if the show goes on for multiple sessions is a big decision. I watch tv so little that I wouldn't want to waste my time on just about any show.

It's hard yo judge beforehand. Good story or book adaption doesn't guarantee a good show. Original story can be as good as a literary classic and even those classics can be ruined by so many things. Not least by the high expectations they tend to raise.

With books I can always switch to fast reading if I find the story uninteresting or slow. It's harder to speed up videos.

Sometimes I end up "watching" a show on the side. Following random episodes when my daughter for example is watching them. Not being interested enough to start watching them completely by myself. But I often find myself watching enough episodes here and the to keep up with the main plot. Luckily my daughter doesn't mind filling the gaps for me.

So maybe I could start watching more shows with the same method skipping random episodes to get forward faster. I'm sure there are recaps available for those missed episodes so I could fill in the gaps there as well. Or maybe I could just skip everything else and go directly into reading those recaps. I could go through multiple shows in an afternoon.
