Missing step from the Brave new world

In many ways we are already living in a Brave new world, dystopia envisioned by Alodus Huxley. You could imagine there is more than enough content for us to consume and dull our minds. But the wise corporate leaders have decided to protect us at least to some extend from excessive consumption by imposing regional restrictions to the content.

It's hard to imagine there would be any other good reason to do such things in today's global distribution platforms and economy. Wouldn't it be better to get as wide audience as possible right from the start instead of risking losing paying customers frustrated by the delay and instead opting for piracy? Those artificial restrictions have been proven inadequate time after time and those who really want to access the content have their ways.

It is already enough to try juggling between different streaming platforms to optimize the content you get with your subscriptions. It's also frustrating to check whether something is for example on Netflix only to find out that while internet tells you it's there the truth is it's "Not available for your region".
