Reading like a writer

To become a better writer I have gone through a lot of material about writing. Knowing about those things helps me pay attention to such things on my own texts. It's also good to read a lot and pay attention how others write. But there is a problem when this has become such an automatic habit to me that I read basically all text which such critical view.

Before, I didn't care whether the prose was well written. As long as the story was interesting and the text somewhat understandable I was fine. I was even wondering why all the critics were dissing some of my favourite books. Reading those same text now has given me some revelations.

But text itself, like the covers shouldn't be used to judge a book alone. Sometimes the story itself is indeed worth the pain of reading through some clumsy words.

It's just hard to tuen of that hard critic voice on my head anymore. It's painting red all over the pages even if I just wanted to enjoy the story.
