Re-education

During my professional career I have held many different roles. They all have required certain level of education which I have mostly acquired through self learning. While somewhat related there has been quite a spectrum of what I have done. But one thing has remained my core competence: infrastructure management.

Easy hard problems

I love solving problems. That's the reason I have ended up in software engineering. And even there I have always looked for the hardest problems.

Those aren't actually that hard after all. There is always clear goals, logical reasons and measurable progress. Even the hardest problems are easily solvable when you know how and where you need to get.

Childhood dreams

I always wanted to become an architect. I remember spending countless hours drafting floorplans on every piece of grid paper I could get my hands on. It wasn't until I learned there are a plethora of rules and regulations you need to comply with when I gave up that dream. I didn't want my creativity to be constrained which such things. Studying those things also sounded rather boring.

Two horned unicorn

In IT there is a lot of talk about the unicorns. The persons that are exceptional on what they do. And not only on their own work but how they influence others around them, push forward what is possible.

These unicorns are the spearhead of their specific areas of competence. They are not intimidated by the challenges they face and impossible doesn't belong to their vocabulary. They can reach over the cap between disciples and offer a broader view of things instead of stagnating within their silos.

A step into unknown

I have been pondering about my role in our company. Last two weeks I have gone through numerous conversation with the people around me. Discussing about where I could contribute the most. And where I could push myself forward, focusing on things I'm most interested in.

I'm slowly starting to have a picture of my future role in my head. And luckily it aligns pretty well with the news of the company. All the feedback has been positive and I'm starting to feel I'm heading towards the right direction.

Winds of change

There is a lot going on in our company. We just recently published our new strategy and we have also been refining our offering against the new strategy.

It's also a good point to review my own position. Where do I want to do from there and what should be my new focus. How should I position myself in this new strategy and how can I bring the most value to our new offering.

Self valuation

Your salary doesn't define your value. But it sure can affect how your perceive your self-worth. I don't want to compare based on their income between different professions and industries but within an industry, working in the same role the salary kinda is the ranking factor.
