Emergency as an incubator for change

The world will not be the same no matter how this pandemic will turn out. After the dust settles in we will be living in a different world. For some, the change might be bigger while others appear mostly unaffected. But the change is still there.

Much of the change won't be anything radical. It will be something that would have happened anyway, just over s bit longer period of time. The  social distancing we are forced to go through could make a lot of things stick. Digital services can (further) replace social gatherings. Virtual presence might become more desired.

There are for example conferences that were cancelled, but only physically. They will instead be held over the internet. So why, after this all is over, would they want to go back to the old if it works well? It's a lot cheaper to organize such an event when you don't need a big venue. It's also easier to participate, cheaper due not having to pay those venue costs but also due not having to travel. That's also good for the environment.

Everything can also be delivered to your doorsteps already. We are almost there not even needing human for the delivery. Hope there is still some human contact left in that post pandemic world. But I'm confident that the next virus will have a lot harder time breaking out as a global pandemic.
